Privacy

Research My Candidates minimizes collection because a residential address and a person's political research can be sensitive.

Address lookup

When you submit an address, it is sent over HTTPS to this site's Cloudflare Pages Function and then to Google Civic Information services to match election districts and available ballot information. For counties with exact local coverage, the address may also be sent to the U.S. Census geocoder and the resulting location checked against the county's official precinct GIS service. Google reCAPTCHA processes a verification token and technical request information to protect the lookup from automated abuse.

The site does not write the full address to its civic database or error logs. The address is used to answer the current lookup and remains in the current page while you use the results. It is not saved in local storage or session storage for a later visit.

Technical operations and security

Cloudflare processes requests to host, secure, cache, and deliver the site. Technical information such as IP address, user agent, requested path, response status, and timing may be processed by Cloudflare and the site's traffic and error-monitoring service. Client error reports are limited to technical diagnostics; the application records address length and whether a ZIP code was present rather than the address itself.

Rate limiting transforms a requester's network address into a one-way derived key. The derived key is retained briefly to reduce automated abuse and protect third-party API quotas; the raw address is not written to the rate-limit table.

My research browser storage

If you use My research, saved candidates, judges, ballot measures, reviewed status, and private notes are stored in your browser's local storage. The site does not send that research list to its servers, use it for advertising, or treat a saved item as a vote or endorsement.

You can export a local backup, import a supported backup, or clear all My research data. Export files can contain private notes and should be stored securely. Clearing browser data may also remove the list if you have not exported it.

Google advertising cookies

Third-party advertising vendors, including Google, may place and read cookies in a visitor's browser or use web beacons, IP addresses, and similar identifiers as a result of serving ads on this website. Google's use of advertising cookies enables Google and its partners to serve ads based on visits to this site and other sites on the Internet. Learn more about how Google uses information from sites that use its services.

Visitors can opt out of personalized advertising through Google Ads Settings. Visitors can also review industry opt-out choices at AboutAds. If other advertising vendors are enabled in the future, this policy will identify them and link to their opt-out information.

Consent choices

Where consent or opt-out controls are legally required, the site will use Google's Privacy & messaging controls or another compliant consent platform before personalized advertising is used. Browser settings may also be used to block or delete cookies.

External sources

The site links to election offices, public-record publishers, campaign-finance databases, courts, news searches, and other external websites. Their privacy practices apply after you follow those links.

Correction reports

The correction form stores the report type, subject, page path, contested field, explanation, supporting source, submission time, and review status. A contact email is optional and is used only when clarification is needed. Correction reports should not contain residential addresses or unnecessary sensitive information.

Submitted reports, optional contact emails, and internal reviewer notes remain in a protected review workspace and are not published. After a correction is verified against an original public source and marked resolved, a reviewer may publish a separate neutral summary, source link, and publication date in the public correction history. The public history does not include the reporter's email, private review notes, reviewer identity, or unpublished report text.

Changes and questions

This page will be updated when the site's data practices or advertising vendors change. The effective date above identifies the current version. Use the correction workflow for factual errors or missing election information. For a privacy question, email privacy@researchmycandidates.com or review the contact and help guide. Do not submit private personal information.
